On Wednesday, May 30th, from 5:30pm to 7:30 Fronteridades will offer a workshop for those of you who want to learn more about collecting oral histories/stories and recording local vernacular knowledges through sound methods and techniques. The workshop will introduce you to the basics of digital sound recording and editing.
Taught by Shipherd Reed --digital sound specialist and staff at the UA Mineral Museum in charge of the oral history project The Miner's Project. The workshop will be FREE OF CHARGE, but you will need to register for it by sending an email to bordercultures@u.arizona.edu
Here's a complete description of what you can expect:
Digital Audio Storytelling Workshop:
This workshop will introduce participants to recording digital audio for oral history, audio documentary, webcast, and podcast purposes. We will review equipment options and operation, editing software and digital editing techniques, and output alternatives. We will also discuss interview techniques and audio documentary sound design techniques. Participants will be able to make informed choices and pursue their audio projects with confidence. We will demonstrate the use of the Marantz PMD 660 recorder (including handling of Cables, Microphones, and Headphones) and will discuss techniques for preparing digital material for the public using audio editing software such as Apple's iLife creative suite.
We hope you take advantage of this great opportunity. This workshop is our way of both celebrating what Fronteridades has done thus far and giving you a taste of what we hope to do in the future.
So, remember, send an email to bordercultures@u.arizona.edu to register NOW!
